Trimming Back Tall Grass Plants
Posted on Oct 11th, 2011
We would also like to take a moment to ask residents that have the tall grasses in their yards to make sure they are cut back for safety reasons, especially those plants near sidewalks. Now is the best time to cut these down to ground level in order for the dormant plants to prepare for the new growth next season. The grasses should be cut down to about 2" above ground level. This will also prevent the dead pieces from blowing around the neighborhood.
Besides promoting healthy growth for the plant, you also help avoid safety hazards for those who utilize the sidewalks. Plants that hang over onto the sidewalk path have caused injury to several children walking and riding their bikes after school. We have recently received a report of a child that had fallen because the plant blew into her face; she tried to avoid the plant which led to her falling off her bike and being hurt badly.
